The reasons some people dislike the IRS:

  1. A government investigation revealed that 94% of the tax due notices they send out are incorrect.
  2. IRS abuses happen.
  3. Some people within the IRS overstep their boundaries and destroy families, businesses, and individuals--rarely with cause, justification, or legal right.

What is good about the IRS:

Believe it or not, there are some good things about the IRS.

  1. The Taxpayer Advocate Office (TAO) is staffed mostly by extraordinary people who are usually very competent, honest, and hardworking.
  2. The auditors, believe it or not, are not the problem. You will have a hard time finding an auditor who is not professional, accurate, and reasonable. If you have a problem with the IRS, ask for an audit. If you owe, you owe.
  3. The IRS does try to work with taxpayers to resolve issues.

What the IRS doesn't admit:

  1. They are not all-powerful.
  2. They are not all-knowing.
  3. They are people, just as we are.

Carey Erichson, in the January 2000 edition of his e-NL "Happy Taxpayer," says: "Congress tried to pass some new tax laws for the benefit of the taxpayer and the President vetoed every one of them. In return, the President tried to pass some new tax laws to benefit the government and Congress vetoed everyone of them. I don't think these two factions got along very well." He was referring to the anti-taxpayer, draft-dodging Bill Clinton. Things are better with pro-taxpayer George W. Bush. He needs to hear from you. Write to our President, and blast the IRS for the terrorists they are.
