Acting as a conduit for communication between the ranger staff of the Ozark National Forest Service in Arkansas, and the rock climbing and camping community using the Sams Throne special interest area.

Sams Throne is a popular climbing and camping area near Mt Judea, Arkansas. Increased use over the last 10 years, partly due to a spike in the popularity of rock climbing itself, has led to a need for rehabilitation of the camping and access areas.
Please understand that the NFS does NOT plan to make any changes or improvments to the Throne itself or any other climbing areas. These changes are to preserve the health and use of the campground area atop the main ridge.

Although the time for input is over, it is my hope that this website can continue to act as an ongoing public forum and conduit for communication between climbers and rangers/NFS employees. This communication is essential to the sustainability of the sport, and the rock we climb. There will always be land and bolting issues - but constructive communication can insure less conflict.

Communicate! - Please submit your thoughts and ideas!

Read the Environmental Assessment report - official documentation provided by the rangers from the Buffalo District, detailing the whys and hows of what will happen to the Sams Throne area. If you have some ideas about what should be done, submit your views - contribute to the public discussion!
Rick Metzger and Terry Hope, rangers for the Ozark-St Francis National Forest, are directly involved in the deliberations concerning the Sams Throne area. These guys are on our side - they realize that the area is a climbing hotspot and want to help us preserve the area for continued climbing.
