| From
Kansas City: |
| 1. |
Take Hwy 71 South out of Kansas City. Travel south for a short distance,
until you spot an exit for Highway 7, to Clinton. |
| 2. |
Take
the exit to Clinton and stay on this road once you enter Clinton.
This same road turns into highway 13 south. Continue on this road
through and out of Clinton. |
| 3. |
Continue
on Hwy 13 south for some time, until you reach Springfield. As you
come into Springfield, there are fast food restaurants and gas stations
just past the I-44 interchange. |
| 4. |
Treat
this as your last chance for beer before Sam's Throne, because it
is. Springfield is the last convenient stopping place in Missouri
before leaving the state, and the Sam's throne area is in a dry county.
|
| 5. |
When
ready to proceed, take the onramp for I-44 east, and travel for approx
4-6 miles on I-44 east. Look for and take exit 82-A for US-65 south.
|
| 6. |
Take
US-65 south for approx 80 miles. Highway 65 south will take you into
Arkansas and to a town called Harrison. This is the last real town
before going on to the campground area (still almost an hour away)
so treat this as your last chance for food. |
| 7. |
About
halfway through Harrison, turn left at a stoplight with a Taco Bell
on the left hand corner. (You will remain on US-65 hwy) Follow this
road out of town and for approx 20 minutes until you see a sign for
the AR 123 / 74 hwy on your right. |
| 8. |
Turn
right onto AR123 / 74 and follow this into the country, for approx
20-25 minutes, going over 2 bridges in the process. Once you exit
the second bridge, you are very close to Mt Judea. |
| 9. |
You
will see a sign for Mt Judea as you enter town and the road will dogleg
left at a 90 degree angle. JUST AFTER this left turn, be looking for
a right hand turn onto new blacktop. This right turn will take you
on the continuation of the AR 123 hwy, all the way to the campground.
(Illustration below) |
| |
 |
| |
Drive
up and up for about 10 minutes, going through multiple switchbacks.
The campground will be a right hand turn, and it's usually marked
with a cairn of sorts (stack of rocks). Turning into the campground,
you can find camping sites either north or south. Try to park intelligently
so as to avoid blocking the way for other vehicles. |
