Sams Throne is a popular rock climbing and camping area near Mt Judea and Harrison, Arkansas. Increased use over the last 10 years, partly due to a spike in the popularity of rock climbing itself, has led to a need for rehabilitation of the camping areas and access roads.
Use the navigation at the left to learn more about the changes that may eventually take place over the next few years at Sams.

Guidebook Issues -- As the current edition is out of print, I had been taking requests for reprint copies for the author, Clay Frisbie. He recently informed me that the new guidebook is now close to completion and so a reprint of the original is no longer a viable alternative.

The new guidebook is for multiple climbing areas in Missouri as well as Northern Arkansas, which would include new and updated info on Sams Throne. Check back with this site (or amazon) for news on the publication date.

Thanks to all of you who took the time to "sign up/vote" for a reprint, however, the new guidebook sounds like it'll blow your socks off.

You can also try to find a used copy of the original guidebook - Abebooks or Bookfinder

Recent News:
The Phoenix rises, again!

Eagle Valley Cafe previously burned to the ground. A new location has opened next to the school (shouldnt be too hard to find).

New owners, Gary & Nina Johnson welcome all climbers. Looking forward to getting some home-cooked grub again after a hard day's climb...!

Mountain lions have been spotted by Mt Judea locals, at various times during the year. They'll probably stay away from anything smelling remotely of climbers and campers, but keep in mind open food containers will tempt them. So do small children; my father used to tease me by singing a song about a tiger looking for 5-year-old meat....Keep tabs on your children when in camp. In fact, chain them all up to a tree or the car bumper. Safety in numbers....
