    In addition, syllabi must follow the "75-20 rule" – the core assessment (CA) must contribute at least 20% to the course grade, and must cover at least 75% of the core learning outcomes (CLO)(This is the reason that syllabi are not approved when they do not include how much each component is weighted). Measuring 75% of the CLO is often done by assigning a paper over 75% of the CLO, and then having the paper count toward 20% of the grade. In actual practice, this is rather loosely applied (in my opinion).
