So you are ready to adopt an Aussie....GREAT!!

Adopting a rescue is a terrific way to give a great dog a second chance at life!

This page will answer some FAQs

What should I expect once I contact you?

You will fill out the Adoption Application that, when completed, will help us to find the best possible match(es) for you from among our available Aussies.

How do you use the Adoption Application?

Once we receive your application, we will contact your references, review your "wish list", situation and dog experience.   We will then contact you for a phone interview.  If it is mutually decided that an Aussie is the right dog for your situation, we will then begin searching for your new Aussie.

I've been approved, how long will it be before I get my new dog?

The answer to this is that there is no definitive answer.  Your perfect dog may be sitting in foster care waiting for you, or they may not be.  If the right dog isn't available at this time, we will discuss that with you and we will begin searching for a dog that is a good fit.

I've inquired about a dog, submitted an application, etc.

How quickly should I expect a response?

We try to follow up with everyone within a few days time.

We are unpaid volunteers that do rescue in our "free" time.  We have families, children, homes and jobs just like you.

Please be patient, we will do our best to respond in a timely manner.

If more than a few days have passed, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Is there a shelter where we can visit the Aussies?

We do not have a centralized location.  Our dogs are fostered in private homes, are on referral (dogs who need rehoming but whose current owner is helping with placement), in shelters and, on occasion, are with other rescue groups.  Once we narrow down the choices, we will send you pictures via email and discuss each dog with you in detail.

What if I want a specific age, sex and/or color?

Because Aussies come in a myriad of coat/eye colors and

striking coat patterns, it is easy to decide on a "must have" combination.  While it's fine to have preferences (we will do our best to fulfill your requests) it is important to remember that you will be living with how your new dog acts more so than how s/he looks.  Don't sell yourself short and miss out on the perfect companion because his/her eyes or coat are not the right color....

Having some flexibility in your choices will greatly increase the number of dogs you will have to choose from and the chance that the dog you adopt will be the best possible match.

**  It is important to note that while we do get young puppies in from time to time, the majority of our rescues are adolescents and young adults aged 9 - 10 months to 3 years.**

I want to adopt an Aussie, but I don't see "my" dog among the available Aussies.

By all means, contact us and let us know you are looking!  Many dogs never make it onto our "available" page because they are placed immediately in homes.   The list of available dogs can (and often does) change daily, so on any given day we have dogs that aren't posted yet, dogs that we are trying to place from local shelters, referrals for which we are awaiting paperwork, etc. and so on.

We want an Aussie for breeding.

Rescue dogs are NEVER placed as breeding animals.  All of our dogs are spayed and neutered prior to placement.  Because responsible breeding practices prevent the need for rescue, we urge anyone wanting to breed a litter to do some serious research on the breed including but not limited to, goals, lineage, health problems/health clearances, how to place/screen homes, etc.  If you are looking for a show/breeding quality dog, please let us refer you to local breeders worthy of your trust.
