67. Klamor (Charles) Adolph Johannsmeyer (Johnsmeyer)

Name is shown as Charles in Solomon Lutheran Church records. Five feet, eight inches tall, sandy complexion, grey eyes, light hair, and by occupation, when enlistedin the Union Army, said to be a wagon maker. Name listed as Charles A. Johnsmeyer in Civil War records. Volunteer who enlisted on 14 Dec 1861 for a 3-year term. Promoted to corporal on January 12, 1862 in Company D, 72nd Regiment, Ohio Infantry. Was in the battle of Shiloh on April 6, 1862; the siege of Corinth, Mississippi under General Grant in 1862; siege of Vicksburg and Jackson in July 1863; and, present at Tupelo, Mississippi in July 1864. Discharged after term expiration on 14 Dec 1864 in Nashville, Tennessee.

After discharge, moved to Sheboygan, Michigan.

75. Fred Boehs

Meredosia Budget, 16 Jan 1913:
Fredrick Bohes (sic), one of the most substantial citizens of this precinct, died at Passavant hospital in Jacksonville last Saturday morning following a serious operation. The remains were brought to this city Saturday evening over the Wabash and later to the home of his daughter, Mrs Fred Roege, north of town. The funeral will take place from Lydda church this -- Wednesday -- morning at 11 o'clock. A suitable obituary will appear in this paper next week.

Meredosia Budget, 23 Jan 1913:
Mr. John Fredrick Boehs was born Sept. 29, 1842, at Gennener-Berg, in the province Hannover, Germany. He was educated in the school of said place. In the year 1865 he married the widow Emilie Louise Helmkamp, who brought four sons of her first husband into the union with Mr John Fredrick Boehs. Two of these preceded their parents in death, one of whom was a parochial school teacher of the Missouri Synod.

In 1876, Mr Boehs and his family left Germany, come (sic) to the United States and settled permanently near Meredosia.

About four weeks ago he took dangerously sick at his home with Mr Fred Roegge, north of town. To relieve him of the trouble of his illness, his doctor thought an operation necessary. To this end he was taken to Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville th 5th day of this month. On Jan. 11the operation was attempted, but it failed and left him a corpse on the operating table. The same afternoon his body was prepared for shipment over the Wabash to Meredosia. It arrived in the evening and was taken to the home of Mr Fred Roegge. Here it remained until the day of the funeral.

The funeral service was conducted Jan. 15 by the pastor of the German Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lydda, of which he had been an active member. His body was laid at rest by the side of his wife who died Mar. 14, 1908.

He leaves to mourn his death two sons, Christian, of Iowa, Fred, ofKansas, three daughters, Mrs John Korsmeyer, Mrs Fred Roegge and Mrs Henry Boehs; two brothers, John Boehs of Peoria and Henry Boehs, of Scott Co., and two sisters, Mrs John Dahman, Arenzville and Mrs. Henry Placke of Scott Co.

Meredosia Budget, 19 Mar 1908:
Died at her home, 2 1/2 miles north of this city, Saturday, Mar. 14,1908, Mrs Henry Boehs, aged about 72 years. Seldom has it been our dutyto record so sudden a death. Her sickness was only of a few short hoursduration. She suffered a stroke of paralysis Saturday morning about 10o'clock which ended in her death about 5 hours later. Funeral serviceswill take place today, Wednesday, and a short service will be held at thefamily residence at 11 o'clock a.m. after which the remains will be takento the Evangelical Lutheran Immanuel church, 6 miles northeast of thiscity, where the funeral services will be h eld conducted by the pastor,Rev. Steger, with interment in the cemtery near the church.

Meredosia Budget, 26 Mar 1908:
Mrs. F. Boehs died Saturday, Mar. 14, and was laid to rest the followingWednesday together with her grandchild, Robert Korsmeyer, who passed awaya day later.

Mrs Boehs lived in the community over 30 years. She was the daughter ofMr and Mrs Osthaare of Hannover,born June 3, 1835. In 1852 she marriedFred Helmkamp and they had four sons, two of whom preceded their motherinto eternity. Christian, in Iowa, came to the funeral. Fred, in westernKansas, found it impossible to come. In 1865 she married Fred Boehs and32 years ago she immigrated to the U.S.

About three weeks ago Mrs. Boehs had a sudden attack of heart trouble.Though for a time her condition was alarming, she recuperatedsufficiently to attend to her household duties. When she arose Saturdaymorning there was nothing alarming iin her condition. However, after shehad her morning work completed, she became suddenly ill. Medical aid wassummoned and all possible done to restore her, but in vain. She soon lostconsciousness, her strength failed and at about 3 o'c.ock in theafternoon she peacefully passed away. She is survived by her husband, 2sons, 3 daughters, 33 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

83. Margarethe Eleonore Luise Catharine Johansmeyer

Died of "accidental injuries at age 73" per the cemetery record. Her death certificate says she died of hypostatic pneumonia. She did not speak English well. She spruced up her house after the death of her husband.


Frederick Johann "Fritz" Schweppe

Was on the same ship as the Johansmeyers when coming to America in July 1865. "Frederick came to America in July, 1865, and spent nine years in and about New York City, working at his trade of fresco painter and decorator. In 1874, being sent to Elmira by his employer to fresco the Second National Bank, he found it to his advantage to remain and has since been engaged in teh same business. He now employs from fifteen to twenty-five men. Mr. Schweppe spent seven years in teh army as a private, and the last year in the field, during the war between Germany and Denmark. He is a Mason, an Internation Order of Odd Fellows, and a B.P.O.E. He married in Germany, Eleanore Johannsmeyer, and they have had six children of whom two sons and two daughters survive."
