The Search for new and vital ideas, will not Unite our Divided Civilization into One Society, until Man understands True Equality, and their Asexual High Tech Past. The Gospel Truth of Eternal Physical Life is needed to Solve current and future problems. The Gospel Truth is All Knowledge on Earth, not just religious knowledge. We need to know "Where Man Came From", and "What Purpose We Have On Earth". This will be revealed and understood, in the coming Millennium. Civilization is about Atom Life on Earth. How many Civilizations have come and gone? Is ours about ready to Fall as the Former Great Civilizations did when Earth's Resources became Unbalanced, with 90% for the 10%-Haves, and 10% for the 90%-Havenots? Is this what Equal Birth means? How did Life on Planet Earth begin? How did God, myth, family, religion, government, science, pleasure, war, death, etc., start on our Home Planet? By (1) Scientific Evolution, or, (2) by a Religious Supernatural Creation, or, (3) by a High Tech Colonization. High Tech Colonization is the 'Super'natural Creation of religion. Life did not evolve on Planet Earth. All our knowledge of Science, Religion, Myth, and our Past History is compatible, when using a High Tech Translation of all the Past writings. Science and Religion are about the same Physical Life on Earth. Life on Planet Earth was Colonized by our High Tech Ancestors (HTA) from Space. There 'is' Human Asexual Eternal Physical Life on other Planets, like our HTA and we are 'in their image'.
Our Science today, knows how to colonize Life on a Planet, by using High Tech. So, Science and Religion both know that a Planet can be Colonized, but can they accept that Earth was Colonized? They both have other theories. Science: Life evolved from a one cell blue-green algae, into Life as we know it. Religion: The supernatural creation of Life on Earth was by an unknown, supernatural 'Being', that looked like Man, also called a Spirit 'Being'. The Literal Reality is our HTA from Space, Colonized Earth, using High Tech, as we would if we colonized a Planet, by sending in a blue algae bomb to set up an atmosphere needed for our type of Human Life. This is where the blue-green algae came from, that Science says is the original element for evolution. We 'are' in our HTAs Physical Image. With our High Tech Space knowledge today, 'can we still accept' that: Life on Earth Evolved for millions of years, or, That it was Created Supernaturally, by Man Gods that flew in fiery chariots? There is Only One True 'God' of the Hydrogen Atom Universes, the Source Of Life (SOL), of which we are a part. No one has ever seen this 'God'. Our HTA are the Man Gods and Angels, in religion and myth, that many saw and talked with, face to face, that traveled in fiery chariots; they are not the SOL that Created the Universe. They cannot make an Atom, they can only use them. They 'are' the Source of Life on Planet Earth. Our HTA are reproduced the Original Pure-bred Colony of Adam and Eve in a High Tech Womb, in the Garden of Eden. They had Selfhood, Equality, and Eternal Physical Life. They fell to the Lower 'Nature' of Heterosexual Body Birth/Human Bondage, the Original Sin, and their children, Cain, Abel, Seth, plus more sons and daughters, were the result of Genetic Dysfunctional Body Birth, which religion calls, Born in Sin or Inherited Sin.

We need to rephrase are teachings of 'seeking after God' to 'seeking after God/Life. Life should be the Only 'God' of Man. Our HTA do have Eternal Physical Life. We are the same Human flesh that Adam and Eve were, only the birthing process is different. An Asexual High Tech Womb, the Mother of All, versus the Heterosexual Female Body Birth Womb, with all types of mothers. After Body Birth, the Adam and Eve Colony lost their High Tech, and could not fly in Space, so they became the Fallen Angels. Man lost their Selfhood and Sharing, and, then Competition, Division, Disease, Killing and Death started. Man was busy having children and existing, instead of Sharing Earth's bounty, and Taking Care of our Planet. Man has inherited this Original Sin and Death, and has to Live out the cycles of birth, death, and rebirth. With Physical High Tech Birth, Man has the Eternal Physical 'Life after Birth', that Religion promises for 'Life? After Death'. There is Eternal Physical Life in The High Tech Birth Society of our HTA. The Space travel Time Warp is how our HTA can return to Earth, off and on down through Earth time, and be the same and not age. One Day of Space travel is as 1,000 years on Earth. On a Balanced Equal High Tech Planet, with High Tech Birth, they do not die, and can correct any accidental problems with High Tech. Since the Noah/Atlantis Planetary Flood, we are familiar with recorded History, and the re-populating of the Earth. What is recorded about the Noah/Atlantis Civilization of the World before the Planetary Flood? It is hard to separate from our recent recorded history.
There are religious writings and myths, about the Life before the Flood that need to be reviewed, to get a better perspective of, how Life began on Earth, the Fall of Man, and the Planetary Flood. The time of Adam to Abraham was a 2000 year period, of which we have records we do not understand. Most of this is in cuneiform and other writings that are being deciphered today. In the Bible, only three chapters of Genesis cover the 6 Days/6000 years, from 10,000 BC to 5,000 BC of the Creation and to the Fall of Man in 4000 BC. Ten chapters cover the 2000 years from the Fall until Abraham. We need to study other writings and myths to understand this time period of Life on Earth. From Abraham to Jesus was a 2000 year period, and from Jesus to today is a 2000 year period. The rise and fall of Great Civilizations, have been written about, and movies made about them, including Atlantis which was the Noah Civilization before the Planetary Flood. After the Flood, Man restarted anew where Noah landed in the Mid-East about 2400 BC, and the Babylonian Civilization began. The Tower of Babel event, changed the One language to many, and these descendents of Adam/Noah spread around the Earth, first through the Temperate areas. All the same knowledge went with them. Because of the different languages set up at the Tower of Babel, generations went different ways, and lost contact with other groups, and also started new Civilizations. Most cultures retained similar Flood stories, and the Folk Lore Myths of Man Gods and Angels that flew in the sky.
It took 6 Days/6000 years, to Colonize the soupy atmosphere of Earth, and add the Species. On Day 7, 4000 BC. the Original Asexual Adam and Eve Colony was put in charge; they 'fell' to Heterosexual Body Birth, the Original Sin, the High Tech Center of our HTA in the Garden of Eden, was withdrawn after the 'fall'. The Original Colony had Asexual Selfhood and were Equal Caretakers, Helpmeets not mates. Why they Fell from the Asexual Higher 'Nature' of reproduction, to the Heterosexual Lower 'Nature' of Body Birth, may never be known, although there are many old manuscripts available, to re-study this with a High Tech translation and understanding. Some Christian religions teach that we are not guilty of Original Sin, but that we are born in Sin. We need to understand this 'Sin' is Heterosexual Body Birth. Our present High Tech could have the resources to make a High Tech Womb, and use it as needed, but we should not use it until we stop the planting of the seed of the male into the female, and take Care of the Life we have now. In 1999, Earth has 6 billion genetic dysfunctional people, and they have nuclear weapons of massive destruction, enough to blow up many Planets like Earth. Is this Serving Life? We need to change our priority and resources for Life, instead of for Death We were to be the Equal Caretakers of Earth, not the Unequal Killers. After Body Birth, the High Tech Center in Eden was shut down on Earth, and our HTA left Man to experience the Lower Nature Lifestyle, because Man has Free-will to chose the Asexual Higher Nature Birth, or the Heterosexual Lower Nature Birth. The choice is again available in the coming High Tech Millennium.
Our HTA did visit from time to time, and with the loss of High Tech knowledge, became known as Gods, or at least this is how most writings are translated. It will be interesting to see how those words translated 'God', could be translated today with a High Tech understanding. 120 years Before the Planetary Flood, the Noah/Atlantis Society, had a Population explosion and a High Tech knowledge explosion, just as we have had for the past 120 years. With our High Tech knowledge, we can now understand, that when the Earth was colonized, two protective layers in the atmosphere were set up, the Ice-crystal Canopy, and the Ozone Canopy. When the Atlantis Society mis-used its High Tech, it broke the Ice-crystal Canopy around Earth, which caused the Planetary Flood and the breaking of the land mass into our Continents of today; the ice is still at our Poles. This Flood, which happened about 2400 B.C., 1600 years after the Fall to Body Birth, is known as the Sinking of Atlantis, the Biblical Noah Flood, the Gilgamesh Epic, and the many epic Flood stories in most of the Societies of today. With the mis-use of our Unbalanced High Tech, we are destroying our Ozone Canopy, that will burn off the green element we need for Life, and then Life as we know it will end. Life as we know it cannot survive without Oxygen, Balanced Elements, and an Ice-Crystal and Ozone canopy to filter the ultraviolet rays from the Sun.
The Whole Gospel Truth of all the knowledge on Earth, will help us understand about our History after the Flood and the Tower of Babel dispersement. The descendants of Noah, carried these happenings, in oral myths and in writings. Some of the Ancient Cuneiform tablets may be about the Noah/Atlantis Civilization. As Man repopulated the Earth, and as the ice melted, many Civilizations rose and fell, as Man spread over the face of the Earth in Asia, China, Japan, India, Greece, Egypt, Africa, Rome, Europe, the Americas, etc. It was always the powerful that ruled the masses, until the masses rebelled, and the powerful fell. Then, the Unbalance would start up again, with a new group of the powerful. Planet Earth is a Spaceship, and like an artificial Spaceship, all the Resources and Jobs aboard should be Shared Equally with our Brothers/Sisters of Life, and not be like the Capitalistic/Materialistic/Selfish System now set up on Earth. After the Fall, Man had to go through the cycles of birth, death, and rebirth till the fullness of time. The fullness of time is coming in the Millennium 2000 AD. The divisions of Man from Body Birth, cause Hate, Inequality, Greed, and War. Heterosexual Body Birth is the enemy of a Planet, usually referred to as Satan or the Devil. Christ is Balanced Elements. Anti-Christ is Unbalanced Elements. Should Man use their hands on Earth Serve the Temple of Atom Life made by the SOL, or Worship Gods in pagan temples made by human hands?

Unfortunately, judging from the one civilization we know - our own - the task of finding reason is all too easy. Our own civilization has a dubious future, and if we can express the reason in brief it is that we find it difficult (perhaps impossible) to cooperate in solving our problems. We are too contentious a species and apparently find our local quarrels to be more important than our overall survival. In a way, all living things must be contentious. Reproductive capacities are such that any species, reproducing freely, can in short order outrun its food supply, however plentiful. (*Author footnote: It always yields ludicrously short intervals of time when we try to calculate how long it would take a virus, bacterium, a pair of flies, a pair of mice, a pair of human beings, even a pair of elephants, to produce offspring equal in mass to the entire Earth - assuming free reproduction, unlimited food, and no deaths but by old age. In the case of human beings, if we start with one pair and multiply them at an overall rate of 3.3 percent a year - easily within human capacity - the descendants of that one pair will be equal in mass to the entire Earth in 1,600 years.) - For instance, thanks to their intelligence, human beings are more apt than any other species to understand that competition exists. For human beings it is not just the striving for the immediate scrap of food, or the guarding of an immediate kill. For human beings, it is the working out of a long-range scheme for getting the better of others. -
"And, as civilization approaches and is achieved, human beings develop a more and more materialistic culture, one in which the possession of any number of different things is held to be of value. - Furthermore, the advance of technology cannot help but increase the power of the individual human being to commit affective violence. It is not just a matter of choosing to manufacture swords rather than plowshares. To be sure, some products of technology are designed to kill, but almost 'any' product can be used to kill if the anger or fear is there. A good heavy pot, ordinarily used for the most peaceful purposes, can be used to crush a skull. This continues without limit. Human beings now have at their disposal a series of weapons deadlier than they have ever had, and they still strive for a further intensification of deadliness. We can conclude that it is impossible for any species to be intelligent without coming to understand the meaning of competition, to foresee the dangers of losing out in competition, to develop an indefinite number of material things and immaterial abstractions over which to compete, and to develop weapons of increasing power that will help them compete. Consequently, when the time comes where the weapons the intelligent species develops are so powerful and destructive that they outstrip the capacity of the species to recover and rebuild - the civilization automatically comes to an end. - The pollution of the environment may diminish the viability of the Earth - by poisoning it with radioactive wastes from our nuclear power plants, or with chemical wastes from our factories and automobiles, or with something as unremarkable as the carbon dioxide from our burning oil."
K.C. TIMES, 12/19/19'81'. "Volatile Middle East nurtured civilization, could bring its end" By George W. Cornell. "Beginnings came in the Middle East. And, some say, so will the end. The place is prepotent. Throughout human annals, it has built and destroyed. It cradled civilization and potentially could imperil it. Faith and aspirations bloomed there and also desecrations. It spawned Judaism, Christianity and Islam. And also, then and now, furies. "Life and death, blessing and curse", says Jewish Scripture accepted by all three of the religions. "Therefore, choose life, that you and your descendants may live". The alternatives loom starkly in this Christmas season of 1981 in the Middle East, that realm of origins where history began, where the first Christmas occurred, where Jesus and his ancestors were born and bestowed their unceasing impact through the world. The celebrated events basically involve not just Galilee and Judea, the site of modern Israel, but also the lands of present-day Iran, where wise men of old interpreted the heavens; Iraq, whence came Abraham, Father of Jesus' people; Egypt, where they once lived and an infant Jesus was sheltered; Syria, where his followers first were called Christians; and other parts of that ancient, writhing region. The area churns these days with tension and turmoil: a president of Egypt assassinated while reviewing his troops; Israel menaced along its borders by Arab countries officially and sometimes violently at war with it for three decades; Iran and Iraq fighting each other for more than a year; internal upheavals and slaughter in Iran, Lebanon and elsewhere.
"It seems a modern caldron, seething with rage, terrorism, retaliation, bombing, edged with vying big-power pressures. But it is also a global source land, the wellspring of civilized humanity, of the first cities, architecture, art, farming and engineering, of the first written languages, of that old book, the Bible, espoused by the three great religions, and also, nowadays, of world-besought "black gold" - oil. Organized communities had arisen there by about 4500 B.C. among intermingling groups in the Mesopotamian valley of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. Tools and other traces found there of human skill go back 600,000 years. The first written language, the cuneiform system of wedge-shaped symbols etched by a stylus on wet clay, first appeared there about 3200 B.C. Tablets of it record the rise of the sophisticated kingdom of Sumer and later, Akkad, which dominated the region for nearly a millennium. The Sumerian empire centered in present-day Iraq, but its influence spread across the areas of modern-day Syria to the Mediterranean Sea and southward across the lands of modern Jordan and Israel. There Jericho on the Jordan River had an urban culture before 7000 B.C., the world's oldest known city, subsequently fortified a thick surrounding wall. Egypt's civilizing impulses began on the fertile banks of the Nile about 3000 B.C., soon after the emergence of Sumer, developing simultaneously with it and borrowing from it. The ancient Egyptian picture writing, hieroglyphics, was believed stimulated by the somewhat earlier cuneiform. Cuneiform survived as an international script until about the sixth century B.C.
"Long after the Sumerian-Akkadian kingdoms had faded, elements of it still were reflected in Hebrew. In the final phases of Sumer-Akkad, that earliest extraordinary surge of human creativity, crafts, trade and mutuality, the restive, city-dwelling family of Abraham, a forebear of Jesus, left the notable textile and shipping port of Ur on the Euphrates River about 2000 B.C., moving northwest to Haran. A farther call still tugged him. "God ... to the land that I will show you", Scripture says God urged. "To your descendants I will give this land" and "make of you a great nation. ... You will be a blessing" to "all the families of the earth. Abraham went, circling west and south into the land that became Israel, settling there after a brief, strained excursion into Egypt. He had traversed a path shaped like a quarter moon that became know as the "fertile crescent". He engendered a nation - hated, admired, repeatedly crushed - but after a long night now risen again, devoted to its land and its God. The founder came from a country now called Iraq, straddling those forked, nurturing rivers converging into the Persian Gulf. Iraq still is home to a Semitic people, 11 million of them now, mostly Arab Moslems. The once lush, irrigated central belt of the rivers has become a sparse plain, the ancient canal systems long gone, the country's recently surging oil output cut two-thirds by the spasmodic 1980-81 border war with Iran. Iraq's iron-handed, socialist government was called "godless" by its foe, the "holy men" who dominated turbulent, violence-wracked Iran and its authoritarian splinter branch of Islam, the Shi'ite Moslems.
"Aside from the war-shrunken oil production of both clashing countries, Iraq's people depend mainly on agriculture, although only about one-tenth of the land is under cultivation. Most of the rest is desert and mountains. Semi-nomadic tribes, with their Arabian horses, raise sheep, cattle and goats. In World War II Iraq initially was pro-Hitler but switched after a defeat by British troops. In the last quarter-century there have been three military coups d'etat in Iraq, overthrowing and sometimes assassinating previous rulers. Its Ba'ath socialist party has been dominant, alternately veering pro-Soviet or pro-West, at times allied with neighboring Jordan, at times condemning and closing the border to it. The patriarch of Judaism, Abraham, a ninth-generation descendant of the ancient biblical Noah and a progenitor of Jesus as traced in the gospels of Matthew and Luke, was a product of Iraq's long-ago area. It then was the ground of humanity's earliest advances, its first city-states, brick houses, cobbled streets, ships, painted pottery, sculpture, merchandising and writing. But though that germinative region yielded its creative spark, and did so for centuries, it also has yielded a long line of warfare, of massive slaughters, of empires rising and falling as armies crisscrossed it - Babylonians, Assyrians, Persians, Egyptians, Macedonians (Greek), Syrians, Romans, Christian Crusaders, Turks and, in recent centuries, British and French. In the sweep of time and flux of boundaries, currently so-called occupations and annexations dissolve into ambiguity, momentary terms with little relevance to the continually shifting lines and sovereignties of a longer past.
" The fading Sumerian-Akkadian domain astride the two rivers gave way in about 1950 B.C. to the kingdom of Babylonia, which developed a cultural grandeur under the reign of its early great lawgiver, Hammurabi, whose code was a watershed in ancient legal standards. The zenith of early Babylonian culture sank in regional chaos in the 17th century B.C. But gradually Egypt materialized as a powerful new empire and by 1450 B.C. dominated an area reaching northeast across modern Israel, Jordan and Syria and into Iraq until about 1100 B.C. Subsequently an emerging war machine, the ancient Assyrians, infiltrated the region, at first making raids for booty and tribute, but then conquering and incorporating territory. With armored infantry equipped with bows and short swords, heavy three-man chariots, bareback cavalrymen, siege towers and battering rams, the Assyrians became the scourge of the region. Between 900 and 630 B.C., they seized most of the Middle East, including present-day Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel and Egypt. But the mammoth military empire collapsed in 605 B.C. in a resurgence of Babylonia, itself becoming devouringly aggressive under Nebuchadnezzar II. The new Babylonians devastated Israel, razing Jerusalem and deporting its people into captivity. But Babylon's Nebuchadnezzar and his successor, Belshazzar, were doomed. Spent and shaky, the last Babylonian empire collapsed in erratic struggle in 539 B.C. before the expanding forces of Persia under the astute, tolerant King Cyrus the Great.
"He freed the Jewish captives to rebuild their temple in Jerusalem, restoring to them 5,469 vessels of gold and silver seized by the Babylonians. Cyrus carved out the most vast empire to that time, stretching far west across Lydia (modern Turkey), where he overwhelmed King Croesus, legendary for his riches, and into Macedonia (now Greece), eastward through regions of present-day Pakistan and Afghanistan into India, southward through Egypt and across Libya. The Persian colossus of Cyrus and his successors, Darius, Xerxes and others, lasted about two centuries, until 331 B.C. Its site, in modern Iran on the Persian Gulf north of Shiraz, now is marked only by regal ruins, as is the fallen capital of Babylon, its archaeological remnants dug from the river bank in Iraq, southwest of the present-day capital of Baghdad. Yet their one-time superiority, and that of ensuing powers - Greek, Syrian, and Roman - in part forged the matrix that formed Jesus."
K.C. TIMES, 12/19/19'81'. "Magi who saw special star came from Persian empire" By George W. Cornell. In ancient Persia, in a bygone time, the learned Magi scanned the stars, watching for a sign. These scholarly priests of Zoroastrianism, once the predominant faith of Persia, were royal counselors, masters of recondite lore, analysts of dreams and nature's phenomena, finding divine signals of human affairs in the patterns of the heavens. From various evidence they are presumed to have been the 'wise men" ('Magi" in original New Testament Greek) from the East who sighted the extraordinary "star" that led them to Jesus' birthplace in Judea. The recent violence and fulminations in present-day Iran, formerly Persia, may seem in strident contrast to the bright and hopeful reckoning of long ago. But such harshness has not characterized Persia through its history. Rather it has been regarded as comparatively benevolent until the modern era, even in its olden days of mightiest empires. It twice, each time over several centuries, controlled much of that foundational region, the Middle East. - The birth of Jesus occurred about 6 B.C. (a date calculated through correction of errors in the early calendars), and various astronomical calculations have indicated triple planetary conjunctions at the time. Also, speculation has suggested a close swinging comet or a new star. Whatever its nature, the Magi spied it and set out on their 1,000-mile journey. It must have taken more than a year. The Parthian empire, built by a Persian tribe of that name, extended at that time from the Euphrates River in the middle of modern Iraq on the west, and eastward across contemporary Iran, Afghanistan and most of Pakistan.
"About three centuries earlier the first Persian empire had gone down in 331 B.C. before the deftly led, experienced armies of Alexander the Great of Macedonia (Modern Greece). He built an empire larger than any before him, reaching from his homeland across modern Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan into India; and southward through modern Israel, Jordan and Egypt. Alexander - an astute, diplomatic strategist tutored by Aristotle - had his soldiers marry indigenous women. More than 1,000 of them were married to Persian women in the Persian city of Susa. In Egypt he was hailed as pharaoh, a descendant of gods. But he died 12 years after his swift, huge empire arose. His generals divided it up in a long struggle. Syria, under Seleucus I and his successors, emerged as the dominant power of the Mideast amassing all that Alexander had conquered except Egypt, wreaking carnage in Jerusalem and installing an idol to Zeus in the Jewish temple. But Syria's harsh military domain began crumbling when Persia's Parthian warriors won back the Persian kingdom in 250 B.C., and Jewish guerrillas led by the Macabees drove out Syria's overwhelmingly larger armies in 165 B.C., regaining Jewish independence for more than a century. The Parthian empire, friendly with Judea and never thrusting across that area, continued until A.D. 222, when another Persian dynasty took over. It and its successors lasted, through intermittent conflicts and shifting borders, until the sudden sweep of Islam out of Arabia in the seventh century, amassing a vast empire of its own.
"Long before, however, the rest of the Middle East had fallen to the march of Rome after the Roman General Pompey in 63 B.C. captured Jerusalem. At the time of Jesus' birth Rome encompassed the Mediterranean Sea, reaching from Spain across southern Europe and northern Africa through modern Egypt, Israel, Jordan and Syria - by not Persia under the Parthians. Judea was ruled by a Roman satrap, King Herod the Great. When the Persian Magi reached Jerusalem, - Herod dispatched them to the little town to the south. - The Magi, jubilant that their arduous quest neared fruition, hurried to Bethlehem. At the house of Mary and Joseph, the visitors knelt in adoration before the child, Scripture recounts, and presented gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. (Magi left by another route, so as not to report to Herod, who killed all male children under 2 in Bethlehem and its vicinity.) But premonitions had sent Joseph and Mary fleeing with the child the night before to another country. He was saved."
Just as all prophets had the message of Equal Sharing and Love of Fellowman, so Jesus brought this message, which was also turned into another Religion. Instead of an Equal Lifestyle of Physical Life on Earth, it was turned into a 'Life? After Death' teaching, when Jesus went up into Heaven/Space in a Physical Body, at the right hand of the Father/HTA. Jesus was sitting in a vehicle, UFO, with our HTA. Jesus will return the same way he left Earth, in a UFO, in the New Jerusalem, a Space City with its UFO vehicles.

"Earliest known alphabetic script found" "On the track of an ancient road in the desert west of the Nile, where soldiers, couriers and traders once traveled from Thebes to Abydos, Egyptologists have found limestone inscriptions that they say are the earliest known examples of alphabetic writing. Their discovery is expected to help fix the time and place for the origin of the alphabet, one of the foremost innovations of civilization. Carved in the cliffs of soft stone, the writing, in a Semitic script with Egyptian influences, has been dated to somewhere between 1900 and 1800 B.C., two or three centuries earlier than previously recognized uses of a nascent alphabet. The first experiments with the alphabet thus appeared to be the work of Semitic people living deep in Egypt, not in their homelands in the Syria-Palestine region, as had been thought. Although the two inscriptions have not be translated, other evidence at the discovery site supports the idea of the alphabet as an invention by workaday people that simplified and democratized writing, freeing it from the elite hands of official scribes. As such alphabetic writing was revolutionary in a sense comparable to the invention of the printing press much later.
"Alphabetic writing emerged as a kind of shorthand by which fewer than 30 symbols, each one representing a single sound, could be combined to form words for a wide variety of ideas and things. This eventually replaced writing systems like Egyptian hieroglyphics in which hundreds of pictographs, or idea pictures, had to be mastered. "These are the earliest alphabetic inscriptions, considerably earlier than anyone had thought likely", said John Coleman Darnell, an Egyptologist at Yale University. "They seem to provide us with evidence to tell us when the alphabet itself was invented, and just how". Darnell and his wife, Deborah, a doctoral student in Egyptology, made the find while conducting a survey of ancient travel routes in the desert of southern Egypt, across from the royal city of Thebes and beyond the pharaohs' tombs in the Valley of the Kings. In the 1993-94 season, they came upon walls of limestone marked with graffiti at the forlorn Wadi el-Hol, roughly translated as "Gulch of Terror". The Darnells returned to the wadi with several specialists in early writing. A report on their findings will be given Nov. 22 at a meeting in Boston of the Society of Biblical Literature. -
"Bruce Zuckerman, director of the West Semitic Research Project at the University of Southern California, assisted the investigation by taking pictures of the inscriptions for analysis using computerized photo-interpretation techniques. P. Kyle McCarter Jr., a professor of Near Eastern studies at John Hopkins University, said: "Because of the early date of the two inscriptions and the place they were found, it forces us to reconsider a lot of questions having to do with the early history of the alphabet. Things I wrote only two years ago I now consider out of date". Frank M. Cross, an emeritus professor of Near Eastern languages and culture at Harvard University, who was not a member of the research team but has examined the evidence, judged the inscriptions "clearly the oldest of alphabetic writing and very important". He said that enough of the symbols in the inscriptions were identical or similar to later Semitic alphabetic writing to conclude that "this belongs to a single evolution of the alphabet"."
