![]() After breakfast, we drove northeast along Highway 34 which parallels the Big Thompson River. We were looking for a place for me to try my luck at flyfishing in a Colorado stream. Here's the spot where I tried my luck. Talk about cold water! I donned my neoprene waders and fished for 15 minutes. I must admit, this idea of catching fish in water which is rarely over 8"-15" deep has got me snookered. I cast my nymph and let it drift under those sage bushes on the far shore (all of 8 feet away!), but I wasn't patient enough for any fish to grace my fly with a nibble. I've got tons to learn about this business of trout fishing! The weather was perfect the entire day. Jan was watching from the road-side pullout, but I couldn't leave her up there for too long! |

Drove back to Estes Park, got some lunch, headed back into
RMNP, made it to Bear Lake parking lot in time for 1:30 guided
tour. The tour didn't happen, so we hiked up to Dream Lake, passing
Nymph Lake along the way.

We even saw a flying saucer on the way! Jan said the hike was a 2.2 mile round trip.... it seemed like 3 miles going up, but less than a mile coming back. At Dream Lake, a very nice older gentleman offered to take our picture, so we accepted. Turned out, he was from our home town!!
The hike, along with a dose of the thin mountain air, pooped us both out, so drove back to town, went to movie house, but didn't find anything to watch. We picked up some frozen yogurt and a fancy caramel apple, and decided to call it a day. Here's a couple more photos captured on the trail to or from Dream Lake.
