FROM HOPE TO FAITH

We Christians go through a maturing process. First, we recognize that we are sinners. Then we begin to hope that we can be forgiven. This brings us to our knees seeking the blood of Jesus Christ to pay the penalty for our sins. In turn, God gives us the faith to believe we are forgiven. For some, this happens quickly; for others, the step from hope to faith may take years. How do I know this? I know it because I was such a person. I tried to become worthy of forgiveness by my own works. After years of trying and failing, I became weary of the legalistic life I was living. I didn't want to struggle any longer!

About this time I came to see that my church was not perfect, either, and I became totally disenchanted with religion. How wonderful it seemed to be free! Yet, I eventually yearned to do something worth while in the world. It was not until this also failed that I came full circle back to God. This time I came with a new perspective and received the faith He had for me. At last I knew I was not too sinful to be forgiven. Neither was I good enough to deserve forgiveness.
