Seeking Balance

Learning that God's word teaches balance brings an important element to our Christian lives. Through balance we become stable and abide in Christ and Christ in us,

(John 15:4), rather than tossed about by every wind of doctrine, (Ephesians 4:14).

From time to time many of us become unbalanced, to one degree or another, in our Christian walk. This happens when we take a scripture and blindly follow it without looking for the balancing scriptures that will keep us from veering off the road into either ditch.

In surfing Christian sites on the world wide web, we have encountered the letters of people who are hurting. This hurt is the result of their past belief in a particular religious organization or minister. And therein lies the problem. Our faith must be toward God, not any human or human organization.

Let us look to the balance in the Bible to guard us from weirdness, fanaticism and manipulation. Let's stand on the solid rock, Jesus Christ, so that we can reach out a steadying or helping hand to others when they are in need. Let us read about Jesus and how He lived.

While we should keep a balanced mind and live a balanced life, we should also remember that Jesus did not reject Peter because of his rash actions or words. He continued to love him and gave him guidance, allowing him time to become more balanced. Matthew 17:4; Matthew 26:51; John 21:3, 15-17; Mark 14:72
