Garmin Aviation Engineering Table Tennis
AETTT3 Details
This page contains detailed information about the upcoming Third Garmin Aviation Engineering Table Tennis Tournament (AETTT3). It was created to save a step in the sign-up process.
This tournament is not a sanctioned or official activity of Garmin International in any way.
This double-elimination tournament is for singles play (‘one-on-one’ as appose to doubles play). There is no entry fee or prize. The tournament will start Monday, 1/28/2008 and continue for probably seven weeks. Matches will be played once or twice weekly by each competitor for a time commitment that should fit within two 15-minute breaks per week scheduled at the mutual convenience of the two match participants. The rules are - more-or-less - the official USATT laws with some added guidelines for our particular situation. Skill level of competitors varies widely, so do not worry that you are too unskilled (or too good) to participate.
After reviewing these rules and guidelines, if you wish to participate in this Third Aviation Engineering Table Tennis Tournament please indicate ‘Accept’ with the voting button in the invitation message by Tuesday, 1/22/2008.
Tournament Structure:
The tournament will be double elimination. All competitors begin in the Championship Bracket. After a competitor’s first loss, they move to the Consolation Bracket. The Consolation Bracket will play two matches per week while the Championship Bracket will play one match per week. Depending on the number of byes, some competitors may play two matches the first week.
After elimination, a competitor will move to the ranking brackets if the second loss places the competitor in the top sixteen ranks. Optionally, the competitor may then play for more definitive ranking with others that were eliminated at the same bracket stage. If Ranking Matches are not desired, the competitor may opt to forgo additional play and take the lowest rank of the bracket stage. There will be no rematches for Ranking Matches (the previous outcome will be assumed).
Luke Bogner will send an updated bracket and a summary of matches to be completed at least each week. See this example of the final brackets and stats from last year.
Seeding:
Returning competitors will be seeded by the order of their ranks from the previous tournament. New competitors will be randomly seeded in ranks below those.
RULES for your Matches:
Please familiarize yourself with the official USATT rules. We will use these rules in the tournament.
The players of any match may make any reasonable modifications to these rules that are mutually agreed upon before the match begins. Please be careful to discuss with your opponent(s) the deviations from these rules you wish to use for your match before you begin play. In case of a disagreement on what rules to use, the official rules will have priority over any modifications.
Guidelines for our Tournaments:
Please keep things friendly.
Please do not play an unofficial match against your next opponent(s) in the tournament once you know who it will be.
Contact your opponent(s) and arrange a mutually acceptable match appointment.
If you or your opponent(s) will be out of the office and may miss the opportunity to play your match, please let Luke Bogner and your opponent know. We should be able to postpone/reschedule.
The most official ball for a match will be considered a 40 mm diameter "three star" ball.
Please reasonably limit warm-up time with your opponent(s) before your match.
Please play a "Best out of Five Games" Match with your opponent. AETT has used best of three until now, but many people play best of five anyway. This will also help with consistency to the Garmin league.
Note that the official rules call for a game played to 11 points, switching serves every two points. You may play to 21 (switching serves every five) if this is mutually agreed upon. I will normalize the scores to 11 when I enter them into the records. I do not recommend playing to 21 points now that we will be playing best out of five games. The minimum points for best out of five to 11 is lower than best out of three to 21. This should save time.
The victor(s) shall report the scores of each game to Luke Bogner (preferably by email) for record keeping. Please copy the opponent(s) so they can confirm the results.
Sign-Up:
Again, if you wish to play in this tournament, reply ‘Accept’ to the invitation email by Tuesday, 1/22/2008. After the deadline, I will assign seed ranks and build a bracket. I will send out the first update Monday, 1/28/2008.
Thank you,
Luke Bogner
